While the Flapper with the quintessential cigarette holder is everything that speaks of female sophistication and style, it is cigar smoking men associate with success. For men, there is little that is more associated with success, accomplishment and triumph than a cigar. In some cases it is the lure of the forbidden that might persuade some to take up the habit.
For the cigar smoking man there are quite a few paraphernalia that come with the habit. There is the humidor and then of course the notion that real men will only indulge in the real habit. While there is a host of different brands of these smokes available, distinguished men smoking cigar products usually refers to the real product. Men who have tried different brands know that the high quality cigars are made solely from tobacco while the cheap brands readily available at convenience stores usually also contain a number of fillers which do little in the way of taste. The lure that men who engage in this habit have reported rests with the quality control they can exercise. While a cigarette is smoked to receive the nicotine fix, men smoking cigars do so to revel in the act itself. Another lure is the way that a perfect cigar is selected. Men like the idea of selecting a single cigar by painstakingly picking it out of a tobacconist’s humidor and then gently squeezing it. This ritual itself makes a man smoking cigar products appear knowledgeable about the habit and thus a man with class and taste. For example, did you know that there are many different ways of lighting a cigar? One stipulates the use of matches only, yet the match must not touch the cigar until the sulphur has burned off. Others claim that a lighter may be employed as long as it is butane powered only. While it is somewhat odd that many women report that they do not like the smell of cigars, to men cigar smoking is something of a fragrant habit they claim to enjoy; they may not be able to stand cigarette smoke or even incense, the smell of a cigar is welcomed. There is also a lot of legend and myth associated with these smokes as well as the company of some famous celebrities such as Groucho Marx, Miles Davis, and of course George Burns who elevated cigar smoking to a new art form. While it is rare that men will claim to smoker cigars because the celebrities did it, they will feel that they are in good company when they light up one of the smokes. |
