Why do people smoke?
There are man reasons why people smoke. Smoking is said to reduce stress. Smoking is supposed to help you relax. Many women smoke to suppress their appetites and lose weight. When asked “Why did you start smoking?” many people can’t pinpoint one reason. They might say they started because their parents smoked, or because kids they knew smoked, or because they were curious to see what smoking was like. People don’t always know why they started to smoke. Stress relief is a popular answer to the question, ”Why did you start smoking?”. There have been research articles written showing that stress is the reason why so many nurses and health professionals smoke even though they know better than anyone else the damage that is done to the body by smoking. Surveys show that people also start smoking because it made to look cool in movies and on TV. Smoking used to be very popular in the US, before there were studies done showing how harmful smoking tobacco is. It used to be that more than 40% of the population smoked, now less than 25% does. Why do teenagers start smoking cigarettes? Parents ask all the time “Why do teenagers start smoking? How can I keep my kids from smoking?” Well parents, there are reasons why teens start smoking. Adolescence can be a stressful time for teens, and some smoke to deal with the stress. Teenage girls battling body image issues may smoke because they think it will help them control their weight. They also may smoke because they see their favorite celebrities smoking. Why some teens smoke and some don’t depends on multiple factors but parents you can help your teen decide not to smoke by discussing the facts about smoking with your kids openly and honestly. There is never a good reason for kids to smoke. The reasons why teens start smoking are issues that you can address with your child. If you get your child the help he/she needs to deal with stress, or body image issues, or other reasons why youths start smoking you can keep your child from smoking. One of the most important things you can do is set an example for your kids. If you smoke, quit. Let the kids experience quitting with you so that they see how hard it is. Seeing the difficulty of quitting smoking may convince them never to start smoking. |
